Len Diedericks’s Diabetes Type 2 Recovery Testimony

June 5, 2025 | by Johan Jacobs

In 1998, I was diagnosed as a Type 2 diabetic and was told to adjust my diet seriously and to exercise to reduce my weight and get fitter. Regular walking or running was prescribed as a daily activity.

My father was a Type 1 diabetic, and I became determined not to go down his route if possible.

After some daily running and walking, I became fitter and decided that it would be a good thing to join Run/Walk for Life Club for regular activity. It was a weekly afternoon event with other men and women, and they recommended entering running or even walking events.

I had not heard of race-walking events but it became a great way of losing weight and a much safer activity to prevent falling by tripping.

After a year or more I decided to join an athletics club where it was cheaper, and more people were doing race walking on a regular basis.

One’s diet is an enormous part of coping with Type 2 Diabetes and losing weight. White bread or buns, sugar, jams or anything sweet and refined are an absolute no.

I discovered that in Howick, where my parents were living, the local shop stocked a well-advertised freshly whole ground stone-milled bread called “Our Daily Bread”.

Long story short, we’ve heard of and discovered the gem of healthy living, Go Natural in Somerset West.

A visit to the GO NATURAL shop was an exciting and a truly re-educational experience that happened in August 2018.

When we met Johan and saw their methods and products, we immediately knew we are going to change the way we bake and cook.

The thought of grinding our wheat was quite exciting and we purchased a Mockmill 100 stone mill.

We also bought a copy of Johan’s Go Natural book and after reading it we decided to buy quite a few copies for our children and a few friends and family because it is so informative about healthy living principles and ideas!

My wife and I have now hand-baked more than 1502 loaves of bread with freshly stone milled flour made by milling Go Natural’s grain through our Mockmill.

This life-giving bread that has been enjoyed by so many friends and relatives.

It is delicious and healthy, my blood sugar levels were always stable and was never affected by eating this freshly ground, clean and whole grain foods.

We have also been making delicious rusks from GO NATURAL’S grain using a family recipe. The best rusks ever!

My main objective with my testimony is to let people know that I am so sure that GO NATURAL’S supply of wheat grain has been a major contributor to my improved performance and success in competitive Race Walking.

Johan’s book offers so much advice for healthy living, and I recommend it highly to people who are wanting to achieve optimum health and to improve their sporting goals.

My present goal is to get closer to the SA record time for an 80–84-year-old male.

Sincere regards

Len Diedericks
