A little stone mill history

Stone milling of grains for preparing staple foods was the norm throughout history in most communities, until the late 1800’s. Less than 200 years ago you would not have had the luxury to buy ready-made flour.

You would have had to make it yourself instead, with your own personal or community stone mill.

The stone mill method crushes and grinds the whole grain, but keeps all the essential and nutritional parts of the grain, the germ, bran and endosperm intact. Sadly, culinary demand for whiter and finer flours led to the introduction of the roll milling process in the late 1800’s, where they discovered how to separate and remove the bran and the germ from the endosperm, which led to the introduction of white flour.

By doing so, mankind unwittingly paid an immeasurably expensive price and sadly today, we suffer the severe penalty of forfeiting 90% of the essential nutrients required for good, sustained health and prevention of degenerative disease.

We have inadvertently ushered in a new and unprecedented dispensation of preventable modern diseases and nutritional injuries.

Most people today rely exclusively on mass-produced, ready-made, shop-bought, factory-made staples for their daily sustenance.
